“Special FX: How 3D Printing Technologies are Revolutionizing Hollywood,” Wednesday, February 24th, 11:00 AM Mayo Concert Hall

Please join us, Wednesday, February 24th at 11am in the Mildred & Ernest E. Mayo Concert Hall as we celebrate Engineers Week 2016 with a keynote address by Jason Lopes, Artist and Lead Systems Engineer for Legacy Effects, a Hollywood special effects company. The event is co-sponsored by the School of Arts & Communication.

During his lecture entitled Special FX: How 3D Printing Technologies are Revolutionizing Hollywood, Jason will share some of the behind-the-scenes processes for creating special effects in movies and discuss how 3D printing is changing the face of CGI movies in Hollywood.

Jason is an expert on advanced 3D printing and has many film credits including Avatar, Life of Pi, and Iron Man 3. He has been using 3D printing technologies for a number of years to assist in producing stunning special effects. He is responsible for all of the 3D scanning and 3D printing production, from the design room to the physical fabrication, of the workshop at Legacy Effects. It was at Legacy Effects where, nearly a decade ago, 3D printing really started to emerge in the special effects workflow. Jason has a degree in Specialized Video and Film Technology from The Art Institute of Philadelphia.

This talk will be of wide interest to the campus community as we discuss this intersection of Art, Culture, and Engineering. The talk will be followed by a light fare in the concert hall lobby.
