About

First Year Foundation

Committed to a BFA? The visual arts major is for you. Focus your talents on fine art, graphic design, or lens-based art: photography/video. All three take a cross-media, interdisciplinary approach that is rooted in the fine arts and guided by a faculty of nationally recognized artists and scholars. You graduate with a strong core. These essential skills and concepts are a foundation to draw on for life, as new artistic interests emerge and new professional opportunities arise.

Global Perspectives

Around the globe and right on campus, cultivate a worldview on world art. Tour the museums of Rome, Paris, and London and the heritage sites of Greece, Turkey, and Cuba through our Landmarks Series, three-week travel-study courses led by TCNJ professors. Study with an international faculty of scholars and artists with ties to India, Hong Kong, and the Netherlands. Connect with visiting artists—of national and international stature—who exhibit in our galleries and meet with our community. Bonus! TCNJ is only a day trip away from the world-class arts venues of New York and Philadelphia.

Great Spaces

Great spaces spark great work. And there’s no better space to create, contemplate, and curate art than our home base, the 70,000-square-foot Art and Interactive Multimedia Building. This campus collective—AIMM for short—is abuzz day and night. Studios for drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, and ceramics. Shops to work with wood, plaster, and metal. Recording studios and digital arts labs to collaborate on multimedia projects. All this creative energy is on display (literally!) in pop-up exhibits, student-created installations, and major exhibitions in the first-floor TCNJ Art Gallery.
