Brian Rose-Past Imperfect: Archaeology, Museums, and War. March 25th, 11 am, Mayo Concert Hall

Dr. C. Brian Rose works to preserve endangered artifacts of cultural heritage and in areas of conflict including Afghanistan and Iraq. His efforts help to create awareness of archaeological history as well as connecting the past to the present. He is the James B. Pritchard Professor of Mediterranean Archaeology in the Department of Classical Studies and Peter C. Ferry Curator-in-Charge of the Mediterranean Section of the Penn Museum. He has received grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Rome Prize of the American Academy in Rome, the Berlin Prize of the American Academy in Berlin. In January, 2015, he was awarded the Gold Medal for Distinguished Archaeological Achievement by the AIA. Dr. Rose will speak about his on-site investigation and the role of museums in preserving endangered historical objects.
